Step 1, Confirm your intention to do a Reading

You may do this as an inner affirmation or perhaps simply state aloud: "Yes, doing this Reading for (insert name here) is something that I want to do."

Notes on this Step 1:

There are three basic types of Readings.

The first type of Reading is one we call the "Clear Light Reading." This involves reading of Confronting The Clear Light either three, five, or seven times. This can be used for trauma, illness, support, or any of many reasons.

The second type of Reading is one we call "Sitting Vigil." This type of Reading involves the repeated reading of Confronting The Clear Light throughout a vigil. This could be throughout the duration of an operation or other significant event which calls for spiritual support. The difference between this type of Reading and the first is duration. In the case of a vigil you continue until the end of the event which inspired the Reading.

The third type of Reading is one we call "The Forty-Nine Day Cycle." This type of Reading involves the reading of the full-text of the American Book of the Dead over the course of fifty-two days. Three days devoted to reading the three stages of confronting the Clear Light followed by forty-nine days . one day each for the forty-nine chambers. When you start a Reading you should know which of these three types of Reading you are intending.
